PUGET SOUND ENERGY BAKER RIVER INTERPRETIVE CENTER

CONCRETE, WASHINGTON

CONCRETE IN CONCRETE

Located in the town of Concrete, Washington, just outside of North Cascades National Park, is the Baker River Visitors Center. The Center is owned by Puget Sound Energy and is located on the site of an old concrete plant.

The entire project was driven by material and surface. Indeed, many of the components were reclaimed components from the original concrete factory. The hanging lamp shades were concrete funnels and a low table in the entry is a reclaimed slab of concrete from the site.

Mechanical interactives tell the story of the history of the concrete factory and the ways in which Puget Sound Energy helps spawning salmon get around a dam.
