Intent & Assembly
I designed the structure for a 90’ long x 16’ high painting on canvas. The piece was originally intended to be adhered to a wall. However, this would prevent future conservation. I designed a stretcher bar and support system that conformed to the curve of the wall and supported the piece. Dibond panels behind the canvas prevent the public from pushing on the art more than 1/2”.
The building presented challenges. This included a corridor narrower than the height of the piece and a curved wall. There was insufficient space to assemble the piece in advance and raise into position, so it had to be assembled on site. The curvature of the wall was a substantial complication.
